Todric nods his head. "I will be speaking with house Bracken myself, Your Grace, since the Bracken that was in this fight is dead, and I apologize for the men of my land. There will be no further disputes from the Riverlands. I have commanded my house guard to patrol the taverns to make sure Riverlands houses do not get out of line any longer."

Post by Daentyn Toyne on Oct 25, 2012 20:19:45 GMT -5
As the wine passed from Trout to Lion, Daentyn entered the Keep and took his rightful place at Lord Toyne's side. He sat as the King stood to address the Lords; after his speech, Daentyn nodded in approval, lilac eyes pouring over those present. Todric Tully accepted the responsibility, as would be expected of a man of his stance. How gracious of him; justice must be dealt duly. For Megga. In his mind, the serving girl's face shifted from her own to his sister's and back. Damn them, damn all the women. I've grown too gentle for my own health.
He caught his father's eye for but a second; sire and son, the two were connected. Lord Toyne knew of his son's heart, however shrouded it may have been, and seemed happy to hear the day's misfortune resolved in some way. It had likely bothered him as well.

Lord Dayne crosses his arms. "My men did no such think, If they did they were lead on by the threats of the Bracken's we all know they are passionate in the seven." He says.

Gerold frowned, spinning a quill in his fingers through and around. These disputes and barroom brawls were small and irritating, but not inconsequential in the least. Smaller pebbles have caused larger rockslides. He stood up to speak.
"My Lords. Your Grace." He bowed towards The King. "I think I speak for all of us when I express deep sorrow at the men and women who died last night. Nevertheless, this was not the work of House Dayne." Gerold turned to the lord of Starfall. "Nor the doing of House Bracken. Neither R'hllor nor the Seven is responsible for these sad, tragic deaths." He addressed everyone in the room. "War, and War alone holds the blame. And this is but a taste of what it will cost us, if we let it rein free. All of us have seen the horror of such strife. We need not see it again." He sat down.

The Great Septon arrived and makes his way to the other side of the table opposite the high priest both old men seem annoyed with one another but otherwise remain silent.
The King looks to Hightower. "Thank you Hig-" Lord Dondarrion rises, a famous man for his might even the King stops to hear what he has to say. "I agree war started it but even if we end the war the problems remain." He says looking to Hightower. "The war was a war of region, not of money, power, or even fame but of belief." He remains standing and the King nods. "He is correct, we need a way to end the root of the problem."

"Religion..." began Lord Lannister, not standing as Dondarrion had. Still, the other men looked to him as he spoke. "Religion is not why I fought. The aggression and stupidity exercised by the Stormlanders and the Dornishmen is intolerable. To go to war over religion, R'hllor or the Seven or the Old Gods...that is stupid. Worship whom you like, and keep it to yourselves." He put his palms on the table, staring at everyone with cold emerald eyes. "The atrocities committed by them against my friends in the Riverlands and the Reach...that is why I lead my men to war."

Lord Tarly stands up out of his seat.
"The root of the problem is your Red Church and your Red God! My lord, fire only consumes and destroys. The Father be just, we must put an end to this fire! There can be no peace otherwise, need I remind you of what happened on the Bloody Night?"
Lord Tarly takes his seat and continues, "Lord Lannister is right. This is not solely about religion. We've lost much and more in this war. My father, my uncle, and my cousins. All good men of the Reach who lost their lives fighting for what they believed in!"

Gerold sighed at Tarly's Zealotry. He would never learn. "We all remember The Bloody Night, and the fallen of The Reach. Will you have revenge for those who died there? Will you make yet another massacre? Sacrifice innocent lives to avenge innocent deaths? To what end? In your eyes you might be noble and pure. Destroying the Red God in his own house. But to mine... you are just another turn in the Wheel of Westeros."

The High red priest grows tired sitting down the Septon rises. "I purpose that the Red God be removed from Westeros!" He says glaring down at the High Red Priest.

Gerold smiled at the offer. "The solution is simpler than you might think, and yet harder than you could possibly imagine. Dorne and The Stormlands cannot remain in conflict with the rest of Westeros. Compensations of land and gold might last for a time, but to truly accomplish peace, we must address the root of the problem. This war was fought over religion. It should end over religion. If this is a conflict between The Red God and The Seven, let them make peace, as well as their servants." He let the words sink in.

"I deman-" The Great Septon Stops, and gasps for breath. "Ahhhh!" His face seems to boil and then moments later engulfs in flame.

Gerold turned for a second before hastily packing up his notes, notifying his bodyguard as he did so, leaving. Things could easily get nasty in the space of a second here. He cursed to himself as he departed the hall hastily.

With the High Septon's face now in flames Lord Tarly jumps out of his seat in shock murmuring, "Mother have mercy!" and "Seven save us!".
Preoccupied with the High Septon, Lord Tarly fails to notice the Coldeye's exit.
