Jory walks around the ranks of Lord Tully’s guard that he brought with him to Kingslanding. They stand at attention as the Captain inspects the line.
“There will be a tournament and a wedding going on while we are here.” Jory starts to speak with them as he continues to walk. “Already the Red God crazies have made a move by burning the Great Septon.”
As Jory speaks a young squire leads two horses over to him. “We cannot allow the R’hllor worshippers to continue their treachery, but more importantly,” He says with a smile. “We cannot allow any of them to win this tournament.”
Another squire comes leading a wagon full of jousting armor and lances. “Each of you will be jousting with me. I want to make sure I am at the top of my game for the tournament.”
Jory walks over to the wagon and takes out his jousting armor. The first squire helps him put on his armor. “So who will be first to make their Captain fall off his horse?”
The men stay where they are at first, none wanting to move. Jory mounts up and rides around a bit.
“No one, really? I know you all want to hit me as hard as you can with these lances.” Jory says with a laugh.
One man steps up and walks to the wagon. He finds armor that fits him and the second squire helps him into it. Soon enough He and Jory are facing each other on their horses, lances ready, and begin to charge. Jory is truly just a novice at jousting, but his skill still exceeds that of the men of Tully’s guard. The first of the men to joust against him is unhorsed on the third pass.
Jory jumps off his horse and helps the man up. He smiles and pats him on the back.
“Excellent joust. Thank you.” He says to him, and then looks to the rest. “Who is next?”
Seeing the last man take his armor off, and walk back into line with a smile, leads the rest to volunteer more readily. Jory unhorses a few more before he calls a halt in order to rest. He takes his armor off and his chest is bruised and battered from all of the hits.
“You all are certainly doing a number on me.” He says with a laugh and then takes a drink of water out of a canteen. “I am certainly learning a thing or two, though.”
After about a half hour, Jory gets himself back into his armor and on his horse. The second half of the men he gathered mount up and joust against him one by one. Jory still wins against the first few, but he doesn’t unhorse them. His lance is much more unsteady than it was before. Fatigue seems to be setting in on the young Knight. The last couple of men actually unhorse Jory, slamming him to the ground. Jory gets back up and back onto his horse every time.
Exhausted and hurt, Jory slowly takes his armor off. His chest is almost entirely black and blue. He just sits down on the ground and rests for a bit. One of his men bring over a canteen and hands it to Jory. After Jory finishes off the water, two of the men help him up and they all walk back to the Tully quarters for their duty, laughing and making jokes after a good day of training.
