Lorraine paced the length of the small chamber, wincing and gasping as the pains came upon her. It would not be much longer now, she had been assured by the old woman, who busied herself by pushing a knife under the bed, "to cut the pains" as she said, and arranging various things in the room according to her superstitions. Lorraine paid her no heed, just closed her eyes and grit her teeth when the pain became more and more unbearable.
After what seemed like ages, the maester made her lie back on the bed and pushed her linen shift above her knees. He poked and prodded her, and then, told her when to push.

A long time later, Lorraine's eyes fluttered open. Her body felt heavy, tired, and hurt. She picked herself up on her elbows, and could see two small bundles nestled together in the little crib beside her bed. She smiled, leaning down to touch their little faces and smooth back the soft wisps of hair on their foreheads. They were so small.
The old woman was still in the room, rocking her chair back and forth and stitching on something. Lorraine caught her eye. "Where is Wilhelm? Tell him to come to me."

Wilhelm nearly tears off the door. With a growl of an answer he storms in, "Why was I not called sooner!" He see Lorraine and goes to her, checking to see if she is alright. He notices the crib, he moves over and his heart skipped a beat as he sees his two children, his son and daughter. He gently picks up his son and hands him to Lorraine. "What are we going to name them." This is probably the softest he has ever looked or spoken.

Lorraine took the little boy and held him close, regarding his tiny red face and big blue eyes with a sense of wonder. She put her pinky in his grasping hands, smiling broadly when he squeezed it with all his baby strength. "Names..." she looked up at Wilhelm, still smiling. "Aren't they wonderful? I hardly believed the Maester when he told me there were two." She looked down at the boy again. "Northern names, I should think, for the smallest pups of Winterfell."

"I like that idea....what do you think then?" He asks her holding his daughter carefully. She grabs a tuft of his beard and pulls on it.

"Edrick, perhaps, and Alys? Old names, from the days of the Kings in the North," she said pensively, kissing the baby's soft pink forehead.

"They are fine names..." He says looking over to Lorraine. "They will grow up strong."

"Of course they will, with you as their father," she said, grinning and shifting her position in the bed. She winced a little, still aching.

"You need to rest for a while my dear." Wilhelm reaches out to stroke her hair, "Take time to get to know your children, you have earned it." He leans down kissing her forehead.
