Once this was the throne room for the Kings of the Rock. Now, the long hall is used for public meetings with the current Lord Lannister. There are narrow windows of stained glass, depicting famous men in the Lannister line, all the way back to the legendary Lann the Clever.

Lord Tybolt Lannister finished consulting with his steward, making all the last minute preparations for his upcoming journey to Kings Landing. "If anything is left out, it will be on your head," he said imperiously as the man left. He shook his head. "A waste of breath, that one."

He looked at his Lord to present him what information he already knew. "Yes, but to this peace talk you must go. I know you want nothing of this war of Gods but your shores are east of the Iron Islands. If these peace talks do not go through, the raiders could turn their eyes away from the North and to Lannisport.
Cordin traced his mailed finger across his cheek in the way he always had.

"Oh, I plan to go," said Tybolt, his voice full of amusement. "I have already had letters from Hightower and Arryn, asking for alliance and to promote peace across the realm. Hightower quite kissed my ass in his, and Arryn, well, I have heard that the new Lord Arryn's father died an untimely death." He grinned. "Perhaps in him I will find a kindred spirit."

This piece of information seemed to bait the young scholar's interest. "This young Lord Arryn could prove to be of use to you. Surely he is new in the world of diplomacy and you could offer your hand to guide him. Get him to value you over the other Lords at the tourney and you could earn a life long ally, I say. You could use one in the East."

"Yes, I could. I knew his father, honorable man. Too much honor." He toyed with the pen on the table, spinning it between his fingers. "I think it will be easier to speak to Arryn than to Hightower. Arryn is still trying to secure his place among the lords paramount, while Hightower spends his time with his face in books... I could help him establish his power, and in the bargain, gain a very useful ally."

"And there's more you could do to win him. Things no other Lord paramount could provide him. Or should I say thing."
He chuckled to himself not worried whether this jest would be met with malice.

Tybolt laughed heartily. "And why do you think that? I am sure the rumors are spread by those who wish to undermine his power. But I suppose we will see, soon enough." He steepled his fingers, thinking about the other lords. "I wonder that I haven't had a raven from Tyrell yet. Hightower, but not Highgarden."

"We M'lord? I suppose I should have asked this of you sooner, but shall I be in you party to the Capital?"

He regarded the man coolly. The Maester was a young man still, younger even than Tybolt himself, but he was knowledgeable, and most of all, he was trustworthy. "Yes, I think I would greatly appreciate having you along as an advisor. Have your things ready and on the wayns in the morning, when we leave."

He let the thought hang there for time. "My order confines me to serve Casterly Rock. But I suppose if it is in the keep's best interest for me to accompany you, than it is very much within reason. I shall be ready on the morrow." With that he left the Golden Gallery.
